Scholarship information

The Portland Timberfish operates a scholarship program, funded by members’ dues, to ensure members of the LGBTQI+ community and/or long-standing members of the team can swim with us regardless of income.

Scholarship recipients can purchase a $15 monthly pass for unlimited swims. That’s a 75% reduction compared to the regular cost. Recipients may also be eligible for meet registration reimbursements, depending on available funds.

Please note, our scholarship program does not cover the cost of a USMS annual membership, which is required of all masters swimmers in the US, including those who wish to swim with the Portland Timberfish. The continuation of the scholarship program is dependent on available funding.

Timberfish scholarships are offered to people who meet both of these criteria:

  • Are members of the LGBTQI+ community or have been regular swimmers with the Portland Timberfish for at least six months.
  • Expect their total household income to be less than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level for the duration of the scholarship.

If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please click on the following link and fill out the form. A board member will be in touch with next steps within a week.

If you are not a member of the LGBTQI+ community or a long-standing member of the team, the Timberfish scholarship may not be a good fit for you. Portland Parks and Recreation provides an Access Discount Program that allows city residents to access their facilities, including indoor pools, regardless of income.
