Readiness guidelines
During the workout, you will be sharing a lane with other swimmers, so it’s important to meet the following guidelines before signing up for a Timberfish practice.
- Able to swim using goggles with your face in the water and breathing to the side without lifting your head out of the water.
- Able to swim 300 yards without stopping in less than 6 minutes.
- Able to swim at least 2200 yards per hour (including short breaks).
- Able to swim 50 yards with a non-freestyle stroke (such as breaststroke or backstroke) in less than 1 minute and 30 seconds.
- Able to do flip turns (or currently learning how to do flip turns).
- Familiar with swim etiquette (see our Swim Etiquette page for resources).
- Please email pdxtimberfish@gmail.com if you have any questions about these guidelines.
If you unsure whether you meet the guidelines above, please swim at a community pool for one hour during lap swim so that you can time your 300 yard swim and track how many yards you can do in an hour.
